Vertical shaft mixers are more than just mortar mixers, they are specialty mixers as well. Mortar is just too easy to mix for these machines. The larger mixers are well equipped to mix up to 3/8" aggregate with the of the group putting out 2/3 of a yard in less than 5 minutes. The vertical shaft mixers are quickly becoming the only mixer of choice for precast producers with its ability to handle the harder thicker and more difficult materials. These guys run them all day every day and still they keep on mixing.
The science behind vertical shaft mixers is quite simple; the paddles are in the mix 100% of the time.
The material is blended with a stirring action as opposed to a flipping motion which high speed film testing shows is a more aggressive and thorough mixing action. The material is scraped from the side of the drum by the big sweeping arm and lifted from the pan by the lower paddle to ensure a uniform and consistent mix. A trident paddle on the larger units keep the material moving. Vertical shaft mixers do not trap aggregate down at the bottom of the mixer which jam up the paddles in conventional mortar mixers. Less horsepower is needed for vertical shaft mixers but yet, yield more volume.
Vertical shaft mixers are great to handle dry pack, grouts, thin sets, stucco, self-leveling materials and oh yeah, mortar.
Mortarman 120
The Mortarman 120 is an electric 110 volt mixer that is used for mixing of mortar and specialty mortars, stuccos, grouts and thin-sets. It was designed to accommodate a wheelbarrow height to discharge into or it can be lowered to dump into a bucket or mortar pan. This will pay for itself in no time with the labor that you save. The Mortarman 120 is made to feed approximately 200 pounds of material per batch (more or less depending on consistency and viscosity). Its principle purpose is to mix mortar at a moderate rate and not intended to replace that of a tow behind unit. The Mortarman 120 mixer is often used to mix premixed mortar or mortars that are used to feed into a hopper for placing or spraying depending on the volume needed. It is an all around great buy for mortar and for the specialty products.
Mortarman 360
The Mortarman 360 is revered by large tile installers which need to mix literally tons of dry pack. No other mixer on the market can trudge through mud better than this mixer. The 360 is available in gas or electric with excess power for even the hardest of mixes. The 360 is a good option for precast and refractory applications too.
Mortarman 750 MBP (Mini Batch Plant)
The giant of mixers can find it's way into most any application where power, volume and thorough mixing is needed. The Mortarman 750 is recommended by LaFarge Cement's for it's Ductal, a product that is in excess of 30,000 psi. This is common amongst all producers of material that need to get a thorough mixture without entraining air into the mix. Since there is no folding but a stirring action instead, that mission is accomplished! Many others have recommended our mixers since IMER Group, the parent company of IMER USA produces batch plants and the mixers that are used in them. Our technology and experience is carried over to the vertical shaft mixers.
The Mortarman mixers are fractions of the cost compared to the dedicated batch plant mixers. Although we designed the MBP to be a high production mortar mixer, it was overkill and was adopted by the specialty market as a high end specialty mixer. Most users of our vertical shaft mixers get many years of production with very little maintenance. Our mixers work very well with refractory cements which are very heavy by volume and require very little water. Most mixers would stall or overheat but the 750 can get through those difficult moments right before the plastesizers kick in. If you are in the specialty cements business then you need this mixer. Just try to find a better option. Please let us know if you succeed.
